Stephen Alvarez has been a National Geographic Photographer since 1995. His views has many different aspects of culture, religion and exploration among other intrestest. Stephen has won many awards through out his career.
I believe the Rule of thirds and S-curve are the compositional stratagies of this photograph.
In this landscaped photo the stars are so bold it is the first thing that catches my attention. The shadow of the trees is so black it configures down to where the rocks and water is highlighted by a person shining a light. The three different view points are actually broken down into thirds which is self explanitory.
(Sky, trees, water)
The S-curve I see in the photo is the black shadows of the trees that make your eye drawn to the bottom of the photograph.
What is the subject matter? Star light vs man made light????
Not too sure what category this photograph ties in with.
Discriptive- yes it is taken on a croc hunt by a National Geographic Photographer but does it make it Scientific? Surveillance because the Photographer is watching from behind and captured such a wide view of the sky to the ground?
Interpretive? The beauty of the stars vs the darkness highlighted by man?
Aestheically evaluative? Photograph could be confusing on what is the subject?
